I always hear people talking about their desires to explore the world, travel, and go on a
never-ending journey. Hmm, pretty interesting I have to say, but a question sparks my
mind yet again and that is; “How good of an explorer are you?” in terms of self-
knowledge.
On a scale of one to ten, I’d say mine is barely making it halfway to 5. Take into
consideration that this doesn’t apply to everyone; some of us are great at analyzing what
they look like on the inside. Hence, they know where and how to walk towards their
intended goals. But then again if God created us to be all the same life would be boring
and tiresome.
Just imagine if we all had the same face, name, or body! That would creep
the hell out of me for sure; since the term, “Identity” would be forever lost. After all, we’ll all be carbon copies of each other right?
You might be poking yourself with questions at this moment, if being an explorer doesn’t
stand for who I am, then what on earth am I? I’ll give you my two cents about it because I
happen to fall on this side oftentimes. If some of the population are great explorers, then
the rest are hidden treasures. And don’t forget that those explorers were once hidden
treasures just like you are right now.
The explorer’s job is not easy and shouldn’t be taken lightly as it goes both ways; discovering themselves or discovering others. The explorer could be anyone, literally. It could be a friend, a parent, a sibling, or a teacher. In my case, it was a professor whom I was blessed to have taken two classes with. He did the tough part of not only discovering me but also convincing me of that finding.
Exploring as hard as it is, is even more of a struggle when the person in front of you
refuses to let their treasure out. Often, because they’re afraid of not being worthy of this
recognition, or simply because they can’t see that specific charm in them.
Around the time my professor decided to believe that I had something special enough to make me stand out in one way or another; I was questioning everything that I had and my confidence was lower than ever. I had doubts about my major and wanted to change it but found myself stuck with it as I didn’t have any better options to choose from.
All that I saw in me was a loser who didn’t have anything special about her, and then someone stepped in and decided to tell me the opposite. My teacher found me when I was losing myself and I think so big of his efforts to convince me of this; regardless of all the time and challenges, it took in between.
Thanks to him I decided where I’d like to take my first step out of my comfort zone every now and then. The explorer’s task is major and could be a game-changer for many. Even though their attempts may be faced with rejection a few times, they continue to work hard until they make those charms loud and clear for everyone to notice.
That being said, which one are you; an explorer, or a hidden treasure? or both? I never said anything about not managing to be on both sides of the coin simultaneously.
You could be a finder, a founder, or take your time till you’re found. It’s up to you really but take into consideration that if you choose to be found, you’ll have to work extra hard to grab someone’s attention once your opportunity shows up. You’ll have to grab it firmly with both hands because not everyone is blessed enough to get those gorgeous explorers in their life all the time. They might be your once-in-a-lifetime chance!
